Our Community Worker, Ann is working with Turlin Moor residents and partners to develop a Community Store for Turlin Moor and Hamworthy residents, who are finding it increasingly difficult to find nutritious food at a reasonable price, due to the social and economic impact of Covid19.

We aim to have store open by June 2020 because Corvid 19 has had a particularly significant impact on a community already experiencing a high level of need – 57% of local primary school pupils receive free school meals (UK average is 15%).

We will be providing food – to begin with dry food which we will access through the FareShare scheme, a charity which makes the most effective use of surplus food from supermarkets etc. Ann will be the lead co-ordinator for the Community Store. Residents will become members for a £1 and will be able to purchase low cost but quality food. A key aim will also be to support people with making the best use of the food they buy and signpost members for further support e.g. with money advice.

Moor Community Food will be based at St Gabriel’s on Turlin Moor and be supported by the following partners: Hamworthy Church – St Michael’s & St Gabriel’s, Poole Community Exchange, Play Moor, Skate Moor, Poole Foodbank, BCP Council and Faithworks Wessex.
