The Meeting Room and the Outdoor Court at the Branksome Community Centre have both been refurbished. This is all thanks to the fantastic work of some of our committed volunteers – Jon and John!

The Meeting Room, which can be booked for training and meetings, has been transformed by Jon. Redecorating the room was quite an undertaking given the 30-foot ceiling and an internal window, which was an eyesore. The room has now been fully redecorated with smart new paintwork and fresh emulsion. The internal window has been covered with a white board, which adds to the facilities available in the room.
As well as taking on challenges as a volunteer, Jon has taken on some major personal challenges of his own over the last year and is now in great shape physically and mentally. Jon says the project ‘gave me a real sense of satisfaction. It turned out really well. I have had lots of compliments. Now with the volunteering I’m doing at the Centre, I feel like I have a real sense of purpose and it has really boosted my self-esteem. Everyone at the Centre, staff and hirers, have been very friendly and kind. I have really been made welcome and a part of the team. I feel I am taking massive steps forward towards getting into full time work.’
Whilst in the grounds of the Centre another John and Kasia have refurbished the outdoor court. Basketball court markings are essential for any game of basketball. Without the right lines you won’t know where to start a game, where to resume, what some shots are worth or even what would be considered out of bounds. John is the Head Coach of Poole Piranhas Basketball Club and runs outdoor sessions at the Centre including coach led sessions for 6-16 years and recreational play sessions for all age groups. Nigel Barrow, Community Centre Manager said ‘ we have got a great team of volunteers and I am hugely grateful for all the different contributions. My heartfelt thanks to Jon, John, Kasia and all the volunteers.’
